Reverend Robert Marion Jones, 79, of Valdosta, Georgia, died on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Select Specialty Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida. He was born in Valdosta, on August 5, 1934, to the late Arthur and Lillie Mae Seay Jones. Mr. Jones received his early education in the Valdosta City Schools. After graduating from high school, he honorably served in the U.S. Air Force, for 22 years, retiring as a TSgt. After many years he returned to Valdosta. He was employed as a Bus Driver with the Valdosta City Schools and the Lowndes County School System for 31 years. He was the first director of the Harvest Food Bank and was also active in many community organizations. In 1979, he was called by God to the ministry where he pastored in Adel, Quitman and Macon, Georgia. Upon his demise he was serving as the pastor of the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Quitman, Georgia.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Addie Newsome Jones of Valdosta; two daughters and one son-in-law, Gloria L. Newsome Warren (Michael) of Valdosta and Michelle Jones Anderson of Nashville, Tennessee; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert M. Jones, Jr. (Pat) of Newport News, Virginia, Anthony G. Jones of Long Island, New York, Kevin Jones (Karen) of Atlanta, Georgia, Sean K. Jones of Nashville, Tennessee; four sisters and one brother, Jim Henry Phillips of Miami, Florida, Lillie Frazier of Valdosta, Georgia, Rose L. Plummer of Albany, Georgia, Cindy Smith of St. Petersburg, Florida, Jessie Gibson of Ft. Pierce, Florida; two brothers in law, Alvin White of Detroit, Michigan and Johnny White of Marion, Alabama; grandchildren, Ashthon, Isaiah, Malcolm, D'Angelo, Kimberly, Ashia, Austen, Alicia, Alex, Autumn, Apple, Kia, Saniya, Amrai, and Joshir. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowful friends.
Funeral services for Reverend Jones will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Morning Star Baptist Church, 1051 Howell Road, Valdosta, Georgia with Reverend Thomas McDowell officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Public viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service. Final viewing will be after the funeral services.
