OUIDA WELCH LEE, 88, of Valdosta departed this life and entered Heaven’s gate at 7:50pm on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on February 22, 1919 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late John Melton and Annie Kemp Welch and had lived in Valdosta for most of her life. Mrs. Lee and her husband the late Norwood Dorwin Lee were charter members of Northside Baptist Church where she faithfully and joyfully served and worshiped for fifty five years and served in the deaf ministry at church. After her retired from Sears she and her husband were members of Campers on Mission. In her senior years she was associated with Hospice of South Georgia and was a comforting presence to countless patients and their families in their time of need and sorrow.
She leaves behind two daughters and sons in law, Carolyn and Bill Medearis of Sahuarita, AZ., Lynda and James Plair of Valdosta, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, David and Joan Medearis of Sahuarita, AZ., and their daughters, Erica and Joy, Claude Medearis of San Diego, CA., Susan Medearis of Colorado, Charlotte and Joe Smith of Dry Creek, LA. and their children, Ashley, Cody Christopher, Matthew and Julie, Laura Bruhl of Hahira and her children, Jessica and Jeremy Daly and Joshua, Amy and Dru DeLoach of Valdosta and their children, Jenna, Juliana and J. D., two great great grandsons, Austin Bruhl and Jace Daly of Hahira, one brother and sister in law, Amos and Carmell Welch of Anderson , SC., four sisters and two brothers in law, Elizabeth and J. W. Russell of Rydal, GA., Velma Rodgers of Macon, Evelyn and Julian Norman, Vivian Dallas all of Valdosta, beloved in laws, L. L. and Evelyn Lee of Williamsburg, VA., Frances Lee of Waycross, Mabel Lee of Dunnellon, Fla. Betty and Fred Hunter of Valdosta, numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by four brothers, James Welch, John Welch, Jack Welch and Raymond Welch.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at the Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Douglas Reddick, Rev. Rick Stevens and Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
