Otis Sanders, 84, of Statenville, died on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Dublin, Georgia, on July 28, 1925, he was the son of the late Otis Tolbert and Annie M. Barbour Sanders. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member and deacon of Morningside Baptist Church and a former member and deacon of First Baptist Church. Mr. Sanders graduated with highest honors from Georgia Tech with a Bachelors of Architecture. He then moved to Valdosta and worked as an Architect for Zeb Lackey then for Thompson and Sanders and eventually to The Master's Architect with Tom Gregory. He also taught drafting at Valdosta Technical College for ten years. Mr. Sanders was a member of the Valdosta Little Theater and he enjoyed acting and drama.
Survivors are his daughter and son in law, Nancy and Scot Hawes of Atlanta; son and daughter in law, Donnie and Caron Sanders of Statenville; grandchildren, Ashley Majors, Corey Majors of Atlanta, Justin Pennington, Danny Pennington of Statenville; great grandchildren, Landon Pennington, Kailyn Pennington of Statenville; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Maxine Sanders, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 26, 2010, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Pastor Wayne Robertson will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
