Oscar C. Carter, 89, of Echols County, died on Sunday, December 5, 2004. Lifetime resident of Echols County, he was born on January 27, 1915, the son of the late Dailey and Margaret Carter. Mr. Carter was a WWII, U.S. Army Veteran. He was a farmer and a member of Sardis Baptist Church.
Survivors are his children and their spouses, Diane and Ellis Corbett , Jim and Diane Carter, Jack and Rhonda Carter, Jerry and Beth Carter, Katie and BB Smith, Margie and Charles Miles, Elaine and Ron Rife all of Lake Park; grandchildren, Dee Dee Smith and Michael Corbett, Michelle Sandlin and Joey Sandlin, Jason Carter and Jim Carter, Andrea Radney, JoJo Carter, Courtlain Carter, Walt Carter and Matt Carter, Stephanie Smith, Cindy Watson, Susan Wilson and Rachael Sears, Megan Rife, Darren Rife, Raymond Rife; nine great grandchildren. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jo Sandlin, sisters, Ruth Corbett and Kathleen Vann, brothers, Lewis Carter and Guy Carter.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2004, at 3 p.m. at Sardis Baptist Church. Reverend Mickey Corbett and Reverend Royce McCurdy will officiate. Burial will follow at Carter Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m.
