Orvil M. Futch, 86, of Valdosta, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at his home.
He was born August 23, 1928 in the Futch area of Cook County to the late Irvin and Mattie Stalvey Futch. He grew up in Cook County, moving to Lowndes County following his marriage to Ruth Salter on December 24, 1955 at Naylor Baptist Church. In 1973 he started Futch Exterminating, which is still operated by his wife and son. He was a member and Usher at Northside Baptist Church, and for many years had served as a Deacon at Naylor Baptist Church. He was a past member of the Jaycees, and he loved fishing and camping.
Mr. Futch is survived by his wife of almost fifty-nine years, Ruth Salter Futch of Valdosta; two sons, Irvin Brian Futch of Valdosta, and Barry Futch and Tonita Rountree of Hahira; Tonita's daughters, Heather Weathers of Hahira and Laura Fletcher of Valdosta; one sister, Blannie Jordan and husband Grady of Pickins, SC; two brothers, Elbert Futch and wife Glenda of Lake Park, and Remer Futch and wife Tena of Ashburn; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ray and Carrie Futch; and three brothers, Leonard, Fred and Hugh Futch.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Futch will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2014, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Interment will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home, Valdosta.
