Ormond Edward Rolfe, 89, of Dasher died at home on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born on August 6, 1924 in Ruskin, Florida to the late Oron Edward and Susie Ethel Rolfe. Upon graduation from high school he entered World War II as a gunner turret with the Eight Army Air Corp. He flew 31 missions over the Normandy Invasion. He was awarded seven Air Medals and four Bronze Stars, as well as the World War II Victory Medal. He was very proud o fhis service for his country. After the war he attended Florida Southern, went to work for St. Joe Paper Company and later retired from Owens Illinois as an Environmental Engineer. During his retirement he spent a lot of time babysitting his grandchildren while the parents were working.
He was a member of the American Legion, DAV and VFW. He was an avid believer in giving blood and donated many gallons of blood through the American Red Cross. Mr. Rolfe was an active member of the Lake Park United Methodist Church. In 2012 he was honored by the House of Heroes. Mr. Rolfe was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity (ITKA).
Survivors include his three daughters and sons in law, Becky and Billy Faircloth, Margaret and Benny Porter all of Lake Park, Marie and Richard Fesler of Valdosta, his grandchildren, Kristi (Chris) Plummer of Dasher, Chase Faircloth of Valdosta, Amber (David) Griffin of Quitman, Zach Porter of Lake Park, Brent Fesler, Kaylee Fesler both of Valdosta, great grandchildren, Chance Faircloth, Gavin Porter, Christian Porter and Peigthon Plummer, special caregivers for the past three years, Kristi and Chris Plummer and Lynn Luke. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Rolfe, one granddaughter, Shanna Fesler, two great grandchildren, twins, Skyler and Tyler Plummer, his sisters, Virginia Bradley, Charlotte Byrd, Evelyn Merrell and one brother, Kenneth Rolfe.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm, Sunday, December 1, 2013 at 3pm in the chapel of the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Trawick officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Dasher Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5-7pm at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home.
