Opie A. Taylor, 90, of Valdosta, died Friday, April 17, 2009 at his residence. He was born in Walton, West Virginia on June 20, 1918 to the late Ezra and Nora Vineyard Taylor. Mr. Taylor was a retired furniture salesman with Pugh Furniture Company in Charleston, West Virginia, was a United States Army veteran having served from 1942 to 1945 and was a member of Open Door Fellowship.
He is survived by his daughter and son in law, Joyce and Charles Trumbo of Valdosta, his sister, Justine Paxton of Walton, West Virginia, his daughter in law, Mary Taylor of Adel and his granddaughter, Michelle Oldham of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Mr. Taylor is preceded in death by his wife, Mary S. Taylor, his son, David Taylor, four brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at eleven a. m. at the McLane Riverview Mausoleum. Entombment will follow. He will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends from six until eight p. m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Open Door Fellowship, PO Box 2787, Valdosta, GA 31604.
