Odell W. Cowart, 89, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Crestwood Nursing Home. Born in Lowndes County on September 13, 1917, he was the son of the late Allen and Anna Johnson Cowart. Mr. Cowart had worked in the textile industry and was retired from Strickland Cotton Mill. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, was a member of the American Legion and had attended Wayfare Primitive Church.
Survivors are a son and daughter in law, Odell Jr. and Lillie Cowart of Valdosta, a daughter and a son in law, Violet and Bobby Dennis of Valdosta, grandchildren, Derek Dennis of Thomasville, Mark and Roxanne Dennis of Valdosta, a great grandson, Dalton Dennis of Valdosta, a sister, Frances Bagley of Valdosta, numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Cowart was preceded in death by three wives, Bernice Denham Cowart, Mollie Brady Cowart and Zelma Hastings Cowart, brothers, Wilbur and Wilton Cowart and a sister, Estelle Deloach.
Graveside services will be held today, Thursday, March 8, 2007, at 3 p.m. at Wayfare Cemetery. Reverend Jim Schappaugh will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Thursday from 1 – 2 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
