Odell Eddings Mercer, 89, of Valdosta passed away Sunday June 30, 2019. She was born on March 19, 1930 in Autryville, Ga to the late Richard Grady Eddings and Mandy Caroline Murphy Eddings. She was a member of the former Berlin Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She went on to attend Berlin Baptist Church and Morningside Baptist Church. Upon her declining health Mrs. Mercer enjoyed watching Dr. Charles Stanley and Dr. David Jeremiah on television. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a very good southern cook, who helped to grow her own vegetables to fill her freezer each year, and a lifetime hard worker. She was a seamstress with Sunstate Sports Wear in Moultrie, and a retired salesclerk from Belk in Valdosta.
Survivors include her children, Spencer and Nita Mercer of Augusta, GA, Susan and Tim Jackson, of Valdosta, Gilbert Ezekiel (Zeke) and Angel Mercer of North Augusta, SC; grandchildren, Slade and Stephanie Mercer, Cassie Mercer, Cody B. Mercer, Anna E. Mercer, Sam Mercer, Jennifer and Keith Reaves, Lee and Annie Jackson, Reid and Kelley Jackson; eleven great grandchildren; her sister, Elizabeth Tucker of Moultrie, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family appreciates the loving care that Ms. Margarette Demps, of Valdosta, gave to Mrs. Mercer for seven years. She was preceded in death by her siblings Elvis Eddings, Willie B. Eddings, Dicey Suber, Omie Lillian Eddings.
Services for Mrs. Mercer will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Wayne Robertson officiating. Entombment will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2-3:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
