Norman Edwin Kirkland

Norman Edwin Kirkland, 86, of Valdosta died March 17, 2008 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born May 22, 1921 in Pearson. Mr. Kirkland was a World War II Veteran and retired from Carmichaels Part Service.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn McDonald Kirkland; six sons and daughters-in-law, Ben and Jackie Kirkland, Larry and Debra Kirkland, Paul and Donna Kirkland, Ronald and Gladys Kirkland, Donald Kirkland, Alan and Vickie Kirkland; one daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Jerry Smith. Mr. Kirkland's grandchildren are Jenny Reid, Stewart Bravehart, Marty Kirkland, Iris Johnson, Timothy Kirkland, David Kirkland, Michael Kirkland, April Reid, Melissa Kirkland, Jesse Mickel, Julie Mickel, Josh Kemp and 11 great grandchildren. Mr. Kirkland has two living sisters, Ruby Corbitt of Waycross and Vinabell Smith Howell of Blackshear. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mayolene Kirkland, Lee and Lucille Kirkland Knight, Thelma Smith Cole and one brother Cliff Kirkland.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008 in Kirkland Cemetery at the Antioch Baptist Church in Pearson with the Reverend Ernie Jones officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home.
