Norma Jean Corbett

Norma Jean Corbett, 85, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2018 at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Brooks County, on January 9, 1933, she was the youngest of five children and the only daughter of the late Maude Morgan and Spence Taylor. Raised in the Hickory Head Community on her family farm, Norma Jean was spoiled and pampered by her four older brothers, Billy, Leighton, Perry and R.C. Baptized in Christ at an early age in the Hickory Head Baptist Church, she graduated from Dixie High School where she was a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court. Married on her 18th birthday, to her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Price, Norma Jean was a loving homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She shared her faith with her four children and raised them up in First Baptist Church of Quitman. In 1974 she began a new life in Valdosta where she was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, enjoying friendship and fellowship in Sunday School, Ladies Circle and volunteering with Break Bread Together. An accomplished seamstress and a good southern cook, Norma Jean loved to dance, was an avid Braves fan, enjoyed bowling, playing cards with “the ladies” and a game of pool at the senior center.
Norma Jean traveled the United States and visited many countries abroad. She enjoyed fishing with her husband, Don Corbett, on his boat, “The Norma Jean”, off the waters of Mexico Beach, Keaton Beach and Steinhatchee. Norma Jean was a familiar face for many years at SGMC where she was a dedicated “Pink Lady”. Most recently she was a member of First United Methodist Church and a spokeswoman for Langdale Place, where she made her home for the last years of her life.
Survivors include her daughters, Denise (Don) Munro, Francis Lake, Dian (Jeff) Fulp, Valdosta, her son, Kenneth Jr., “Bubba” (Deborah) Price, Dixie, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Norma Jean is preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth David Price, her four brothers, husband, Donald N. Corbett, Jr. and daughter, Debbie Price North.
Services will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Glenda Hollingshead will lead the service. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Committal will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
