Nellie Cooper Selph, 88, of Valdosta died Thursday, December 21, 2017 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born in Brooks County, Georgia on October 21, 1929 to the late Ray and Ollie Brantley Cooper. Mrs. Selph was a member of Northside Baptist Church and had a strong love for the Lord and great faith. She had worked for Playland Toy Stores and Woolworth’s and served as a Pink Lady with Pineview General Hospital now South Georgia Medical Center. Mrs. Selph loved being at home and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters in law, Don and Twyla Selph, Phillip and Sylvia Selph, David Selph all of Valdosta; four granddaughters, Donya and Anthony Coggins, Lisa and Chris Guest, Mendy and Kirk Darby, Misty and Allen Moore; her great grandchildren, Lindsay Coggins, Christian Guest, Zachary Darby, Perry Coggins, Cason Guest, Karsyn Darby, Avery Moore; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. (J.W.) Selph, a sister and a brother in law, Mary Kate Cooper Bennett and R. B. Bennett and a sister in law and brother in law, Lavan and Nelson King.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Saturday, December 23, 2017 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Willis and Rev. Bob Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:30pm until service time at the funeral home.
