Nathan J. Adams

Nathan J. Adams, COL USAF RET., 89, of Valdosta died Monday, November 24, 2008 at his home. He was born on October 7, 1919 in Cusseta, Alabama to the late Jasper and Elizabeth Atkins Adams. Col. Adams received his BS degree in textile engineering from Auburn University and then entered the Air Force through the Field Artillery on July 11, 1941 as a 2nd Lieutentant at Maxwell AFB, Alabama. He served as wing commander of Moody Air Force Base retiring in March 1968. During his military career he flew eighteen different planes one of which is the U2. He later served as Vice President of First National Bank and retired when the bank began opening on Saturday so that he could play golf every and any Saturday.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years whom he married on December 9, 1943 at First Episcopal Church in Montgomery, Alabama, Margaret Alice McCain of Valdosta, son and daughter-in-law, Nathan J., Jr. and Carol Adams of Centerville, OH., daughters and sons in law, Betty and Tim Grennan of Huntington Beach, Calif., Kathy and Bill Wenck of Louisville, KY., grandchildren and their spouses, Dawn Adams and Russ Hunter of Ohio, Melissa and Scott Forrest of Connecticut, Christy Adams of Oregon, Zoe and Tim Jones of Warner Robins, Pace Kelly of California, Xan Wenck of Chicago and Will Wenck of Atlanta, great grandchildren, Cyndee and Maggie, his sister, Mary Zatezalo of Montgomery, Ala., stepgrandchildren, Eric and Nicole Grennan of California and Raechal and Sam Hardy of Texas, stepgreatgrandchildren, Timothy Hunter, Jacob, Brianna, Nate, Natalie and William.

Funeral services will be held at 4pm, Saturday, November 29, 2008 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Michael officiating.
