Nataline Roberts Tharin, 98, of St Augustine, Florida formerly of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023. She was born in Echols County, GA, on July 21, 1924, to the late Irvin Reason Roberts and Lura Dorothy Carter Roberts.
Nataline grew up on a multi generation owned family farm, with seven sisters, two brothers and two loving parents. She graduated from Echols County high school, where she excelled in academics and basketball. After graduation she moved to Jacksonville, FL, and began working at a family-owned business called Monticello drug company where 666 Cold Medicine was created. This was during the time of WWII. While in Jacksonville she changed employment in order to support the war efforts by working at the Jacksonville shipyard building Mercy ships that would carry medical supplies and aid to our troops in Europe. That’s where she earned her nickname Peaches, given to her by co-workers.
After the war she attended Massey business college in Jacksonville where she learned typing and clerical duties. After college she received a position at Tyson duplication company performing clerical work. Nataline met her husband in 1953 at the beach home of Thurston and Bertha Roberts. They were married in 1954. They had two boys Russell born in 1956 and Albert, born in 1958. They lived in Jacksonville at 1263 Belvedere and spent their weekends at their river home called Paradise Lodge, fondly known by the family as camp.
Nataline and Jimmy raised a beautiful family. Tragedy struck the family when her husband Jimmy drowned in a boating accident at their river home. Nataline remained living at the river home alone but still active with friends and community while attending First Baptist Church of Downtown Jacksonville, FL. Five years ago she moved to Saint Augustine Health and Rehab where she has been very happy. On Nataline's 95th birthday she received the greatest gift to her legacy with the birth of her great grandson Oliver James Tharin.
Nataline is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Russell and Janet Tharin, and Albert Tharin; her grandsons, Judson Tharin, Didier Tharin and his spouse Kimberly Tharin, and her great grandson, Oliver James Tharin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Russell Tharin, and her siblings.
A funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Macedonia Baptist Church with Brother Wayne Boykin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com. Carson McLane Funeral Home
