Nancy Justice

March 21, 1956 — April 6, 2016

Nancy Justice, 60, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Duke University Medical Center. Diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in 2012, Nancy became a medical pioneer taking part in the recombinant Polio Virus Trial at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University. Much has been learned through her participation in the trial. Born in Brecksville, OH to the late Joseph & Agness Brett, she grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, before the family moved to Naples, FL while Nancy was still in high school. She went on to graduate from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism. Her first job as a journalist was for a magazine in Tampa, FL for a few years before moving to Orlando to work at Charisma. While living in Orlando she met her husband, Greg, and they were married in 1991. In 2005, Nancy and Greg moved their family to Valdosta where they attended Christ's Fellowship Church and Nancy assisted with Sunday School. Nancy was currently attending First Christian Church. She loved participating in Bible Studies and was tremendously supported during her illness by her bible study friends.
Survivors include her husband, Greg Justice of Valdosta; sons, Zachary Jackson Justice of Atlanta and Lucas Joseph Justice of Valdosta; sisters, Karen Brett, Diane Bader, Mary Kaye Brett, Patty Stapleton; brothers, Kenneth Brett, Joe Brett, David Brett, Danny Brett; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family is deeply grateful to friends, Clint and Jena Beeland, Craig and Chris Reilly, Frances Guice, Lisa Murphy and all those who provided transportation to physical and occupational therapy, and the team at Southerland Physical Therapy. Thank you to the Doctors and Researchers at Duke University Medical Center, Dr. Annik Desjardins, Nurse Practitioner Rosemary Kettering, Dr. Allan Freidman, Dr. Brian Huey and all the other amazing nurses and staff at Duke.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church with Reverend Chris Michael officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to "Angels Among Us", the Duke Cancer Fund, DUMC Box 3624 Durham NC 27710.
