Myrtle Wise Hooks, 92, of Valdosta, died on Monday, August 31, 2020, at her daughter’s home. Born in Broxton, Georgia on December 24, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Edward Wise and Mary E. Butler Wise. Mrs. Hooks worked in manufacturing for Texture Tex. She was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church of Valdosta. She enjoyed her church, cooking and crafts and loved to garden. Myrtle loved time spent with family and her little dog Buddy.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Walker Carter, great grandson, Hunter Johnston, five sisters and three brothers.
Survivors are her husband, Jim Hooks; her children, Myrtle Diane Johnston, James Ronald “Ronnie” Carter, Marcia Rose Carter, Terry Lynn Atkins and her husband Marty Steven Atkins; grandchildren, Lucretia Ann and Terry Dorminey, Michelle Carter, Nicky and Mary Martha Carter, Bartlett Lamar Johnston, ShaRee Diane and Jeff Tomlinson, Jennifer Carolyn and Chad Taylor, Lana and Steve McCullough, Andrea Rose Wilkes, Shelly Lynn Lehman, Doyle and Angelina Wilkes, Trey Coller; great grandchildren, Amber Pipkin, Josh Tucker, Tiffany Johnston, Conner Johnston, Megan Dorminey, Drake Dorminey, Breann “Breezy” Astarb, Madison Astarb, Jordyn “Jordy” Astarb, Miley Hare, Garrett Carter, Allison Carter, Colby Taylor, Brady Taylor, Kaiden McCullough, Brody McCullough, Braylee McCullough, Walker Corbett, Kylie Corbett, Kaitlyn Lehman, Kassidy Lehman, Harlie Hall, Gracen Wilkes, Kinlee Wilkes, Emma Wilkes, James Wilkes, Harper Wilkes, Raylon Brown; great great grandchildren, Ansley Wood, Carter Wood, Trinity Johnston, Bella Johnston, Kenny Johnston, Analia Hebert.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hooks will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at First United Pentecostal Church. Brother Kenneth E. Goff will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
