Myrtle Lee Becton Carter, 93, of Valdosta passed away at Lakehaven Nursing Home on May 31, 2014 after a battle with cancer. She was born January 19, 1921 in Valdosta to the late Charles Lewis and Lucinda Wells Becton. Ms. Carter worked for 47 years at McCrory's 5 & 10 where she was the manager until her retirement. She attended Airport Church of Christ where she was the church treasurer.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Vivian Carter of Macon, GA; four grandchildren, Kevin Carter (Carla) of Jennings, FL, David Carter (Dawn) of Greenville, SC, Marlene Dalton (Phil) of Macon, GA, and Jan Lewis of Jeffersonville, GA; six great-grandchildren, Danielle Carter, Deanna Carter, and Dawson Carter all of Greenville, SC, Dillon Lewis of Lizella, GA, Blake Wilson of Macon, GA, and Emily Asbell of Jennings, FL; one sister, Ruby Smith of Middleburg, FL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years Rossie J. Carter.
Funeral services for Ms. Carter will be held in the Carson McLane Chapel on Wednesday June 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Dasher Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lakehaven Nursing Home, 410 Northside Drive, Valdosta, GA 31602 or United Hospice, 407 Cowart Ave, Valdosta, GA 31602. Ms. Carter's family would like to thank her nieces: Donna, Sylvia, and Mary for taking care of her during her illness.
