Myron (Mike) Stouffer, Sr., Lt. Col. Retired., 93, of Valdosta died Saturday, April 30, 2016 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born March 3, 1923 in Roanoke, VA to the late Myron E Stouffer and Nanette Sparks Stouffer. Lt. Col. Stouffer was retired from the United States Air Force. He was a man who loved God, loved his family and loved his country. He served his country in three wars, including in the Navy in WW2 flying torpedo bombers in the Pacific. He then joined the Air Force serving as a fighter pilot for two tours of duty in Korea (including more than a year as a POW) and two tours of duty in Vietnam. Among his long list of military accommodations were five Purple Hearts for being wounded in combat, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and multiple Distinguished Flying Crosses. His most cherished service medal was for participation in the Berlin Airlift.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (Skip) Stouffer of Valdosta, his son and daughter-in-law Myron T. and Sally Stouffer of Rock Hill, SC, his daughter and son-in-law Cobie and David McDaniel of Mount Juliett, TN, and his son and daughter-in-law Ron and Cindy Stouffer of Libertyville. IL., plus seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:00am at Carson McLane Funeral Home. Father Jim Elliot will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be held Monday, May 9, 2016 at noon at Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, GA.
