MSgt. Tommy Richard West, USMC (RET), 63 of Adel passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
Almighty God issued one last set of orders to his faithful Marine, sending Tommy to guard Heaven's shores after a life well lived on earth.
Tommy was born on June 29, 1950 in Norman Park, Georgia to the late Wilbur and LaRue Jordan West.
Following a distinguished twenty year military career, Tommy provided thirteen years of continued service as a corrections officer for Valdosta Correctional Institute.
He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Cecil, Georgia and was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He heartily enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Tommy also loved to fish, read, spending time outdoors and riding his tractor.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Regina C. West of Adel, son and daughter in law, Christopher S. and Amy West of Burlington, IA, son, Tommy R. West, Jr. of Adel, daughter and son in law, Kimberly R. West-Neiss and Rodney Neiss of Scott Air Force Base, IL, grandsons, Tyler Neiss, Jordan Boyce, Parker Dale and granddaughters, Shelby Watson, Hannah Neiss and McKenzie West, two brothers and a sister in law, Ralph West of Summerville, SC, David and Penny West of Hahira, GA, three sisters and two brothers in law, Dona West Phillips and Edwin Phillips of Ft. Mill, SC, Diane West Sawyer of Brunswick, GA and Karen West Williams and David Williams of Hahira, two sisters in law, Sandra West of Ray City and Susie Gatlin of Orlando, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and LaRue Jordan West, his brothers, Byron West, Gerald West, Kenneth West and his twin, Johnny West.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Ike Jefferson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8pm at the Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira.
