Ms. Forrest Baker Smith, 95, of Savannah, and formerly of Valdosta, died on Saturday, June 18, 2005, after a lengthy illness. Ms. Smith was born in Lowndes County, to the late Mollie Hiers & Daniel Crawford Baker. She moved to Savannah from Valdosta in 1987, and lived at Riverview Rehabilitation Center (formerly Chatham Nursing Home). Mrs. Smith was beloved by all who knew her, she loved to cook for and entertain family and friends in her home. She was devoted to her family and was especially loved by her children and grandchildren. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Doris & Glenn Williams, of Savannah; nine grandchildren, Gary (Gina) Williams of Roswell, Mark Williams of Savannah, Suzy (Randy) Cooper of Savannah, Ann Smith of Valdosta, Beadie Smith of Valdosta, Sandra (Tim) Maxwell of Opelika, AL, Linda (Doug) Hughes, Cheryl (Jeff) Waldron, and Darryl (Tracy) Smith, all of Valdosta; two daughters-in-law, Dorothy Smith and Velma Smith both of Valdosta. Also surviving are 13 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Bernard Smith; two sons, Floyd K. Smith and Bobby Gene Smith and a grandson Bobby Gene Smith, Jr.

Funeral services will be held for Ms. Smith at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Vernon Hughes will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverview Rehabilitation Center, 6711 La Roche Ave, Savannah, GA 31405.
