Mrs. Florence P. Dozier

Mrs. Florence Peyton Dozier, 91 of Valdosta, GA, died on February 15, 2006 at her residence after a short illness. Born on August 7, 1914 in Nashville, TN, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Donald, Jr. and Florence Dunmire Peyton and the widow of Thomas A. Dozier. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Mrs. Dozier was a thespian and a woman of many passionate interests and cultural pursuits who retired to Valdosta after many decades of world travel. She continued to be involved in her community and touched the hearts and minds of many who knew her. She prepared for her leaving with the same resolve of spirit which defined and guided her life.

Her family include two sons and daughters-in-law, David T. and Marie M. Dozier of Woodbridge, VA, Dr. Peter M. and Kathryn Dozier of Johnstown, PA; daughter, Michele Dozier Hobby of Franklin, NC; grandchildren, Shannon Thomas Lenahan, Ryan Patrick Dozier, Tara Stephanie Dozier, Rebecca Peyton Dozier, Kaitlyn Brandt Dozier, Emily Grace Dozier, Bryan Olin Dozier, Helen Elizabeth Hobby, Charles Franklin Hobby, Jr., Vicki Anne Winningham, Dr. Thomas Warren Hobby, John Michael Hobby; great grandchildren, Heather Carlene Hardy, Brandon Thomas Stayton, Joshua Matthew Winningham, Zachary Taylor Winningham, Caroline Carson Hobby, Corbett Thomas Hobby; sister Mary Jane Major of Mexico and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Spake and one grandson, David Thomas Dozier, Jr.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father John O’Brien officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, P.O. Box 1727, Valdosta, GA 31603.
