Mrs. Anniel Keaton Brown

August 18, 1921 — July 2, 2018

Mrs. Anniel Keaton Brown, 96, of Valdosta and former of Bainbridge, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Valdosta, Georgia. She was born in Camilla, Georgia on August 18, 1921 to the late Clarence and Eleanor Keaton. She was a sibling to two sisters, Grace Moreland (Joe Lee), Mae Bell Rambo (Frank) and three brothers, Daniel Keaton (Sylvia), Lewis Keaton and Austin Keaton (Charlie Mae).
She is survived by four children: Joe Ann Bowens (Jimmy, deceased) of Southfield, Michigan; James Edward Brown (Cornelia) of Birmingham, AL; Shirley Ann McClain (Benjamin, deceased) of Valdosta, Georgia; Jerome Brown of Bainbridge, GA.
Mrs. Anniel Keaton Brown is also survived by four generations of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She also had a host of loving nieces, nephews and those who loved her and adopted her as their spiritual mother.
She loved cooking big meals for her family (World Famous Sweet Potato Soufflé) and being outside working in the yard with her flowers. She also liked shopping for herself and others. She gave of herself selflessly and taught her children to do the same.
She was a beloved lifelong member of Campbell Street Church of God-in Christ in Bainbridge, Georgia where she served faithfully. She had an unwavering faith in God and was a true worshiper who worshiped the Lord in spirit and in truth. She served as the drummer at her church. When the Holy Spirit took over her hands (while beating the drum) it was like the drum was singing the songs. In addition, she taught Sunday School, Bible study and served as a spiritual mother to many women in and outside of the church. She lived according to the word of God. She was truly a woman of God, and served unconditionally.
Now that her earthly work is finished, don’t be sad. She will always live in the hearts of those she touched. When she was called by the Lord, she answered with gladness.
Proverbs 31: 10 and 25 – 31 “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Halcyon Hospice staff. A special thanks to her nurse Jimmy and social worker Justin for their support throughout her illness and especially during her final days.
A graveside service with family and friends is scheduled to honor her life on July 7, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Mausoleum at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Pastor Dell Young will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Point Church, 2206 E. Hill Ave, Valdosta, GA.
