Morris Wayne Davis, 69, of Mayday, passed away Friday, April 16, 2010 at his residence. He was born March 16, 1941 in Berrien County to Lester & Mildred Davis and had been a life long residence of Echols County. Mr. Davis had been a beekeeper for the past 40 years and with his son, owned Davis Honey Farms. He served as a judge in Echols County for 20 years, and had retired from the Echols County School Board after 31 years of service as a bus driver and later in maintenance. Mr. Davis was an avid supporter of Echols County Wildcats Basketball, he loved hunting and fishing and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Mr. Davis is survived by his loving and caring wife of 49 years, Jean Maine Davis of Mayday, a son and daughter in law, Michael & Cathy Davis of Mayday; two daughters and sons in law, Michelle and Ricky Rewis of Haylow-Tarver and Hope & Israel Cortez of Mayday; his five grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Cole & Sara Davis, Brett Rewis, Jacob and Savannah Cortez and His mother Mildred Davis of Howell. Also surviving are his sisters in law and brothers in law, Charlyne Davis of Valdosta, Frances & Cecil Jarrad of Statenville, Eloise & Frank Helton of Valdosta, Edward Maine of Valdosta, Gail & Gerald Fussell of Valdosta, Bonnie & Kenneth Lowery of Cartersville, Sandra & Frank Riefel of Dallas, Bobby Maine of Valdosta, Janet & Allen McDowell and Margie & Bucky Davis, all of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Davis is preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Randall Davis, his father, Lester Davis, a brother Charles Davis and a sister Ann Davis Bussey.
Funeral services for Mr. Davis will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday April 19, 2010 at Macedonia Baptist Church. He will lie in state at the church from 2 p.m. until service time. Rev. Wayne Boykin and Rev. Jim Countryman will officiate. Burial will follow at Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
