Minnie Irene Corbett Rackley

July 28, 1919 — March 14, 2013

Minnie Irene Corbett Rackley, 93, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Langdale Hospice House after a brief illness. She was born on July 28, 1919 in Echols County to the late Minnie Lee & Staten W. Corbett. She graduated from Echols County High School and served as a parachute packer at Moody Air Force Base and Robbins Air Force Base during World War II. She worked with Gulf Life Insurance and in retail sales. Mrs. Irene was a Godly wife and mother and a faithful member of Greenwood Baptist Church. Cooking, loving her family and friends and working in her yard were her passions. Being the youngest of her siblings, she became the family historian which gave her great pleasure.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Survivors include her two daughters, Brenda Register of Valdosta, and Terrie (Marvin) Head of Douglasville, GA; one son, Jerry (Marsha) Rackley of Valdosta; two grandchildren Misty (Bo) Yeargan of Ray City and Justin (Ashley) Rackley of Valdosta; two great-granddaughters, Savannah Rueff of Ray City and Anna Logan Yeargan of Baxley and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James H. Rackley, five brothers- Warren (Tobe) Corbett, J.L. (Tince) Corbett, Oswald Corbett, Johnnie Corbett and Hansel Corbett, one sister, Norma C. Hughes and a son in law, Ray S. Register.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Sardis Baptist Church in Echols County with interment to follow at Carter Cemetery. Rev. Clyde Stokes and Rev. Brett Jarreil will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the funeral home. The family gratefully acknowledges thanks to caregivers, Kayla Morgan, and the dedicated professionals and staff of Hospice of South Georgia.
