Milton Connell

Milton "Pugh" Connell, 83, a resident of Good Hope Road South in Naylor died suddenly on Monday, November 29, 2010 at home of cardiac arrest. He was born in Naylor on February 16, 1927 to the late Clyde Eugene Connell, Sr. and Eula Lee Peters Connell. He had a wonderful childhood in Naylor where he attended public school and graduated from Valdosta High School where he enjoyed athletics. Mr. Connell entered the military at the end of World War II where he served in the U. S. Army in the European Theatre. He graduated from the University of Georgia, School of Forestry and Wildlife Management and was employed in the lumber and forestry industry as a district manager for the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau. Upon retirement he moved back to his family homesite at Good Hope. Mr. Connell was very knowledgeable about nature and was a true naturalist at heart and an avid birdwatcher. The Alapaha River was one of the sanctuaries of his life and he enjoyed fishing and hunting and had made many trips to South Dakota to hunt pheasants. He was an avid reader and loved working crossword puzzles. Mr. Connell was a member of the Naylor Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Milhous Connell, his daughter, Lynn Connell both of Naylor, two nephews, Danny Connell of Watkinsville, GA and Johnny Milhous of Tallahassee, Fla., brother in law and sister in law, John and Barbara Milhous of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Clyde E. Connell, Jr. and Emory "Shine" Connell.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at the Good Hope Baptist Church with Rev. A.M. Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Good Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1pm until service time at church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Good Hope Cemetery Fund, 6758 Good Hope Circle, Naylor, GA 31641.
