Millard (Mill) N. Murray

Mill Murray, 91, of Valdosta, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Langdale Hospice House. He was born in Remerton, GA on June 16, 1922 and was the son of the late Omar Millard and Annie Bell Brantley Murray. Mill was a wonderful and caring person. He always had a great sense of humor. Mill leaves a legacy that will never be forgotten. Many people came to him for advice and encouragement. Mill was a World War II United States Army Veteran having received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Victory Medal, Sharpshooter Badge and Marksman Badge Medals. He loved his country and God. Mill was an avid fisherman and bird hunter until his health declined. He was one of the first Mayor's of Remerton. Mill loved his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was educated in the Valdosta School System. Mill worked at Strickland Mills until he was drafted into the United States Army at twenty years old. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge and the European Conflicts. Mill returned home and went back to Strickland Mills working his way into management until its closing. He then went to Texture Tech working in management until his retirement in 1987. Mill was a member of Remerton Methodist Church for 66 years until it burned. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Mill is survived by his daughters and son in law, Sharon and Bruce Fletcher of Dasher, Diann Mullis of Camilla, his son and daughter in law, Tony and Delinda Murray of Valdosta, he also raised Houston Green of Valdosta. He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Edith G. Murray. Other survivors are his grandchildren, Lisa Horsley (John), Jack Stanford (Thea), Bryant Rykard (Melissa), Liz Burling (Rick), Jamie Ryals, Shannon Waldron, Jennifer Sublett, Nicole Murray and Michelle Murray, eleven great grandchildren, two sisters, Juanita Worley of Gastonia, NC and Carolyn Bartlett of Adel. He is predeceased by three sisters, Lilly Murray, Edna Harnage and Gerri Oliver and three brothers, Mack Murray, Ben Murray and Maynard Murray.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 10:30 a. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Charles Barden officiating. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from six until eight p. m. Friday at the funeral home.
