Mickie R. Batalo, age 83, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2008, in Roanoke, Virginia, where she lived for 3 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Steve Batalo, who retired at Moody Air Force Base and with whom she lived in Hahira, Georgia, for more than 40 years.
After settling in Hahira, Mickie resumed her Civil Service career at Moody Air Force Base, serving as Executive Secretary for a long line of soon-to-be Generals. While working full time for most of her life, she found time to get a Master's Degree in Marketing, rear two children, and provide supervision for Steve and 3 grandchildren.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in law, Roquette and Blake Griffin, formerly of Albany, Georgia, but now living in Roanoke, Virginia, and Mickie and Walter Muroff, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Joe Harrison, of Atlanta, and her three grandchildren, Steven Harrison, and wife Sandy, of Atlanta, Andrew Harrison of Atlanta, and Elisa Harrison of Portland, Oregon, one great-grandchild, Alexis Harrison, and various cousins. Special thanks go to Sharon and Jim Mundy, of Roanoke, Virginia, who were Mickie's devoted caregivers.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to honor Mickie's request that donations be sent to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607, your local hospice, or the charity of your choice.
