Michael Monetti, 70, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa following a sudden illness. He was born on March 1, 1947 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Americo Matty and Aleene Powles Monetti. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict, and in the United States Army where he retired with the rank of Captain. He had a zest for life and loved his journeys and adventures with his family. He had a true servant's heart and gave his time and talent to many causes and his love and compassion to those in need. Capt. Monetti was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
His survivors include his wife of 46 years, Linda Monetti of Valdosta; his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. David Michael and Whitney Monetti of Valdosta; his loving granddaughter and the apple of his eye, Chandler Blake Monetti also of Valdosta; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Toni and Joe Franco, and Cheryl Herman all of Park Ridge, New Jersey; two nephews, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Franco and Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Franco; a niece, Mrs. Debbie and Mr. Peter Issa; great-nieces, Ava Issa and Isabella Issa; a great-nephew, Thomas Franco; family members, Harris and Delia Tennyson of Quitman. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Americo and Aleene Monetti, and his brother, Matthew Monetti.
Services for Michael Monetti will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Bryan LaBurt officiating. The burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. A rosary will be held on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home with a visitation to follow until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the St. John School.
