Michael Lewis Gilliam

July 10, 1954 — June 30, 2017

Michael Lewis Gilliam, 62, of Valdosta passed away peacefully on Friday, June 30, 2017, at his home. He was born on July 10, 1954 in Valdosta to Lewis and Lillie Mae Gilliam. He was married on September 7, 1973 to Linda Faye Dixon in Valdosta. He was employed by Georgia Power for the past 35 years, where he displayed amazing work ethic, was recognized for his exemplary job performance, and served as a mentor to others.

He is survived by his loving wife Linda Faye; his daughter, Stephanie Emmett along with her husband Zach of Boston, Georgia; his daughter, Sabrina Hebert along with her husband Joseph, and their two children, Abigail Grace and Elijah Michael of Suwanee, Georgia; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Marilyn and Roy Morris of Valdosta, Linda Ann Eunice and Dennis Sirmans of Clyattville, Jenifer and Steve Wysocki of Lake Park; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ruby Edwards, Harriett Sutton, Joyce Dixon, Jenny Dixon, Darlene Keeling, Marvin and Angela Dixon, Randolph Parker, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Michael was preceded in death by his daughter, Tara Faye Gilliam; his parents, Lewis and Lillie Mae Gilliam; his grandparents Henry and Ollie Lassiter Guess, Jefferson and Rina Gilliam; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Thomas Harvey and Lona Myrl Dixon; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Leroy and Marie Dixon, Earl Edwards, Kenneth Sutton, Thomas Dixon, Harvey and Luella Dixon, Woodrow Dixon, and Frances Parker.

Michael was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. However, being with Linda Faye, his children, and spending time with his grandchildren brought him the most joy during his 62 years of life.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Thursday, July 6,, 2017 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
