Michael L. Rigg, 81, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Fellowship Home Brookside. He was born on April 25, 1942, in Dayton, Ohio to the late George and Christine Barber Rigg. Mr. Rigg was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was retired from the United States Postal Service having assumed many jobs and responsibilities during his tenure. He was a member of the Alapaha Masonic Lodge (Grand Master), VFW 1777 (Commander from ’04-’06), an avid Alabama football fan, and huge supporter of the VSU baseball team. He had coached his children as they were growing up in many of the sporting activities they were involved with and God, Country, and family was his mantra. Mr. Rigg was a member of the First Christian Church.
He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher and Susan Rigg, and Brendan and Kristi Jo Rigg all of Valdosta; his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Bryan Tompkins of Leesburg, Georgia; his grandchildren, Brittany Haney and her husband Lucas Haney of Barney, Ga., Tyler Lewis of Minot, North Dakota, Sally Lewis of Tifton, Georgia, Cassie Rigg and Colton Rigg both of Valdosta; great-grandchild, Chase Haney of Barney. He was preceded by his wife of 55 years, Janet Gossett Rigg.
A memorial service for Michael L. Rigg will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at First Christian Church of Valdosta. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church.
