Mettye Carroll Foard Edmonson, 100, of Lake Park, died Monday, October 25, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center. Mrs. Edmonson was born on July 22, 1904 in Embry, MS, to the late James Nathaniel & Lucinda Jane Gary Carroll. She was a school teacher for 37 years in Mississippi, until she moved to live here in this area with her only daughter Peggy F. Fondren and son-in-law, John H. Fondren. She was a member of the retired teachers sorority, K.K.I. and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Clarksdale, MS before moving to Georgia and becoming a member at Francis Lake Baptist Church. She is the last of nine children and lived the longest.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, two grandchildren John H. Jr. and Kathy Fondren; and Missy and George Hopper; great grandchildren, Joy Fondren Eldridge, Lee Fondren, Samantha Fondren, Benjamin Hopper, Summer Hopper, and a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Eldridge; and a stepdaughter, Ann Aiken of Shreveport, LA. She is preceded in death by husbands, Henry Lloyd Foard and Daniel O. Edmonson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Edmonson will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at Francis Lake Baptist Church in Lake Park. Rev. Eldridge Lyons will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the church from 9 a.m. until service time. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Sapa Cemetery in Eupora, MS.
