Melvin graduated from Berrien High School in 1955. There he was on the basketball team and a great baseball pitcher. In a three game stretch he threw 2 – one hit games and 1 no hit game. He later pitched in the Twin Rivers League where he held the record for strike-outs in a game in which he struck out 18 batters in a 7-inning game. Unfortunately, he lost to Castle Park because his defense failed him.

He coached little league baseball at the Valdosta Boys Club for over 25 years. He won and placed in a countless number of golf tournaments through his life including winning the Senior’s Championship at Kinderlou on several occasions. He had 3 hole-in-ones. He was a big Braves, Red Sox and Bulldog fan. GO DAWGS!!!
Melvin Plair loved people and he loved to help people. He was in the banking business for more than 50 years. He enjoyed lending people money when they were in need or if they needed it for pleasure.
