Maxine Connell Steinberg, 85 of Valdosta died on Monday, September 18, 2006 in Valdosta from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born on October 8, 1920 in Broxton, GA, she was the daughter of the late J. C. E. and Clyde W. Connell and the widow of the late Reverend Robert F. Steinberg. Mrs. Steinberg served as the pianist at several churches where her husband was pastor. She taught piano to many students in her early years and was very active in all aspects of her church, which included WMU, Sunday school, and Senior Adult activities. She loved to travel with her family and friends and was very active with the alumni of her Valdosta High School graduation class. She was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church.
Survivors are daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Al Simmons of Twin City, GA, Roberta and Rudy Fields of Macon, GA, Sarah and Joe Murrell of Jacksonville, FL; sons and daughters-in-law, Franklin and Fay Steinberg of Watkinsville, GA, Raymond and Brenda Steinberg of Statesboro, GA; sister, Mamye Breckenridge Trexler of Lakeland, FL; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2006 at Crossroads Baptist Church with Dr. Ken Alford, Reverend Thomas Simmons, and Reverend Charlie Scarborough officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
