Maxine Althea Cooper Cullen, 85, of Valdosta, died December 31, 2012. Maxine was the daughter of Carlos and Alice Cooper of Valdosta. She is survived by her children, William Patrick Cullen (Linda) of Valdosta, Theresa Alice Cullen of Athens, Paul Pierce Cullen of Valdosta and Christopher Milan Cullen of Phoenix, Arizona; sisters, Mildred Cooper Southall and Shirley Cooper Dame of Valdosta, and Anna Cooper Wilson of Tallahassee; grandchildren, Sean Patrick Cullen (Lisa), Kelly Jean Irvine (Jeff), Erin Michael Cullen (Penny), Courtney Timmons Griffin (Tim), Catherine Timmons Levy (Ben), Cullen McReynolds Timmons, Lauren Theresa Cullen, and Donald Milan Cullen. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Milan Cullen (CMSgt, USAF-retired), her sister, Christine Cooper Gray of Valdosta, her brothers, Donnie Cooper and Hoover Cooper of Valdosta, and Bobby Cooper of Savannah.
Maxine was a loyal, loving, and devoted wife of 68 years and was the epitome of the dedicated military wife who made sacrifices above and beyond in support of her husband's 32- year military career. She was a devout member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Valdosta. Maxine was a former manager of several USAF base federal credit unions, as well as the Valdosta State College (University) credit union.
Although Maxine suffered for 8 years with Alzheimer's disease, her zest for life and love of God and family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but she now rests in the sacred arms of our beloved Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.
The family would like to recognize the dedicated and loving caretaker support provided to Maxine by Langdale Place of Valdosta and the Fellowship Home of Brooks County.
Funeral services will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Gornto Road, Friday, January 4, 2013, at 12:10 p.m. Entombment will immediately follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive relatives and friends for visitation on Thursday, January 3, 2013, from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
