Maureen Lyddy Maturi

November 12, 1920 — August 8, 2024

Maureen Lyddy Maturi, 103, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on November 12, 1920, in Mandalay, Burma to the late James Garnett Lyddy and Arabella Backhurst Lyddy. Mrs. Maturi came to the United States as a young woman of 27, having secured a position in the Secretary General’s office of the newly formed United Nations prior to her arrival in the States. While living in New York, she met her future husband and love of her life, the late Robert Maturi. Their family moved to Valdosta in the early 1960’s and made the South Georgia area their home. Mrs. Maturi was a homemaker and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

She is survived by three daughters and their spouses, Karen and RS DeLoach of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Pam and Danny Carter of Albany, Georgia, Janine and Andy Pendleton of Valdosta; her grandchildren and their spouses, Trip and Amber DeLoach of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Jennifer and Caitlin DeLoach also of Lawrenceville, Abbey and Brian Jack of Savannah, Georgia, Marylee Pendleton of Valdosta, and John Pendleton of Columbus, Georgia; seven great-grandchildren, and two nephews, Mark and Marian Lyddy and John Lyddy of Great Britain. In addition to her parents and spouse, Mrs. Maturi was preceded in death by her brother, Maurice Lyddy.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Mrs. Maturi’s loving caretakers, Valerie Smith, Gwen Neloms, Livinia Jones and Hospice of South Georgia.

A memorial service for Maureen Maturi will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. The inurnment will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
