Mattie Lou Schroer

January 10, 1916 — March 11, 2010

Mattie Lou O'Neal Schroer, 94, of Marietta, Georgia, formerly of Valdosta, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010. She was born in Valdosta January 10, 1916 and was the daughter of the late John Robert and Maude O'Neal. She was a graduate of Valdosta High School. She was a member of the Central Avenue Church of Christ when in Valdosta and the Piedmont Road Church of Christ in Marietta. At Central Avenue she taught children's Bible classes. She worked as a beautician until the age of 83 and sold Avon until she finally retired at age 88 and moved to Marietta to live with one of her sons and his family. She loved her work and her customers, many of whom became life- long friends. But most of all she loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were the light of her life.
Survivors include her sons and daughters in law, Albert Schroer, Jr. and Peggy of Poinciana, FL, Billy Schroer and Betty of Marietta, GA, and Bob Schroer of Valdosta, GA; grandchildren, Lisa Schroer of Woodstock, GA, Leslie Schroer Freeman and Adam of Acworth, GA, Lynn Schroer Galyean and Eliot of Dallas, GA, John Schroer and Jamie of Kennesaw, GA, and Nikki Schroer of Valdosta; great grandchildren Chloe and Ivey Harris of Valdosta, GA, Abby and Ella Freeman of Acworth, GA, Griffin and Grace Galyean of Dallas, GA, and Lauren and Aaron Schroer of Kennesaw, GA; sisters, Lena Bennett of Jacksonville, FL and Emily Teagle of Warner Robins, GA; brother and sisters in law, Glenn O'Neal and June of Valdosta, GA, and Glenn Ann O'Neal of Athens, GA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Schroer, Sr. and granddaughter Dana Schroer Harris, brothers Johnny O'Neal, Charles O'Neal, Lonnie O'Neal, and Earl O'Neal, sisters Thelma O'Neal Grant, Carrie O'Neal Willis, Margaret O'Neal Fredricks, and Mary Clyde O'Neal.
Funeral services will be Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Mr. John Klimko and Dr. G.R. Holton will officiate. The family will receive visitors from 5:00-7:00 on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Raintree Village Children's Home, 3757 Johnston Road, Valdosta, GA 31601.
