Mary Sterling Neal, 83, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at her home after a short illness. Born on August 12, 1922, in Tifton, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Winnie McDaniel Sterling. Mrs. Neal was a charter member of Crossroads Baptist Church and formerly a member of Lee Street Baptist Church. She was the first woman manager of a Sears Catalog Store and retired after 40 years service with Sears. Mrs. Neal was featured in the Valdosta Daily Times for parasailing at the age of 81. <br><br>Survivors are two sons and daughters in law, Joel S. and Kay Neal of Dacula, Butch and Jackie Neal of Quitman; grandchildren, Angela and Michael Crevar of Kennesaw, Maribeth and George Stewart of Mooresville, North Carolina, Ben and Wendy Neal of Valdosta, Paula Welch and David Neal of Quitman; eight great grandchildren, Alex, Aaron, Turner and Ella Crevar, Katie and Becca Stewart, Harrison and Mary Elizabeth Welch; a sister, Tyra Sowell of Jacksonville, Florida, sisters in law, Althea Sterling and Isabel Neal of Valdosta, Juaniece Sterling of Memphis, Tennessee, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Neal, four brothers and a brother in law. <br><br>Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2006, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Dr. Ken Alford, Dr. Stanley Hendricks, Reverend Charlie Scarbrough and Reverend Stephen Carr will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Grace Hospice @ 410 Cowart Avenue Valdosta, GA., 31602.
