Mary S. Tabor

March 12, 1931 — April 26, 2013

Mary Hilda Tabor, 82, of Valdosta, fought a long and painful struggle that ended on Friday, April 26, 2013 at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Colquitt County to the late Bryant & Mary Mimbs Strickland, Mrs. Tabor has lived in this area for the past 60 years. In the early years of her family, she was a homemaker, raising her four boys. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Tabor attended Valdosta Business School to study bookkeeping. She became a meticulous bookkeeper and worked for several area organizations including, the Lowndes County Board of Education, Penny's Department Store and Evelyn's Dress Shop and then Hogan's Pharmacy. Mrs. Tabor had a wonderful sense of humor, but still enjoyed her privacy. She greatly loved and was loved by her family, both immediate and extended and especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her four boys and their spouses, Rickey & Jannette Tabor of Hahira, Larry Andrew & Annette Tabor and Wendell & Melba Tabor, all of Valdosta, and Lynn & Jody Tabor of Athens; two brothers and a sister in law, Clarence Strickland of Valdosta, and Ralph & Mary Strickland of Thomasville; ten grandchildren, Beth (Rick) Magsanay of Adel, Ricky (Crystal Walker) Garvitte of Hahira, Brandon (Tiffany) Tabor of Valdosta, Stacy (Greg Weaver) Pierce of Valdosta, Dana (Jeff) Sumner of Tifton, Andy (Casie) Tabor of Hahira, Shannon Tabor of Omaha, NE, Courtney Canino of Valdosta, Desiree (Brian) Carter of Decatur, and Megan (Joe) Weatherford of Bethlehem. Also surviving are a brother in law, Allen Tabor of Warner Robins, 18 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Frank Tabor and six brothers and sisters.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tabor will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013 at Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira. Mr. David Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow at Cat Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira on Sunday, April 28, 2013 from 3 until 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 2263 Pineview Dr., Valdosta, GA 31602.
