Mary S. King

MARY S. KING, 86, of Valdosta, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at her home.

She was born August 8, 1923 in Greenville, AL, the daughter of the late Harry and Lucile Searcy Sutliff. Mrs. King was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, and had served as a Board Member of L.A.R.C. In 1993 she published a book titled Remembering, about her growing up, marriage, and the birth of her twelve children.

She is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Carole and Ward Huston of Fairfax, VA, Mary Alice and Wade Johnson of Rosemary Beach, FL, Peggy King-Sears and Michael Sears of Silver Spring, MD, Janie and Mike Atkinson of Valdosta, and Karen and John Scanlan of Greensburg, PA; five sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph Jr. and Beatrix King of Atlanta, David and Julia King of Gainesville, John and Carol King of Atlanta, Paul King and Evelyn Walsh of Atlanta, and Donald and Franci King of Alpharetta; twenty-seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Col. Joseph Henry King, Sr. (USAF Ret.), two daughters, Susan Lee King and Susan Vaughan King, and two brothers, Travis Sutliff and Harry Sutliff.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mrs. King at 12:10 pm Monday, February 22, 2010 at St. John the Evangelist Church, with Father Dan O'Connell officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens. Mrs. King's family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday, February 21, at St. John's Church, where a Rosary Service will be conducted at 6:00 pm.
