Mary Mason Brandon Harrington, 98, long time educator with the Valdosta City Schools, died on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Valdosta, on September 11, 1924, Mrs. Harrington was the daughter of the late Laura Vick and the late William Mason. She was a graduate of the Valdosta City Schools, an undergraduate from Georgia State Woman’s College (Valdosta State University) and she earned her master’s degree from Florida State University. She retired from teaching in 1989. One of the charter members of Park Avenue Church, she was faithfully active as a Sunday School teacher and youth volunteer, among other leadership roles held in the church. Mrs. Harrington was also a former President of the Valdosta Educators Association and a member of numerous Scholastic Honor Societies.
Survivors are her husband, George W. Harrington of Valdosta; sons, David Langley Brandon III (Linda) of Canton, Larry Alden Brandon (Jenne) of Valdosta, and William Mason Brandon (Lu Ann) of Columbus; grandchildren, Katherine Brandon Swafford (Hudson) of St. Simons Island, Leslie Brandon Elder (Brian) of Roswell, David Kotler (Janie) of Middlesboro, Kentucky, Molly Kotler Nelson (Derek) of Canton and seven great grandchildren. Mrs. Harrington was preceded in death by her first husband, David Langley Brandon, Jr., a sister, Ruth Mason Powers and husband, Jack.
Graveside services will be held on 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Reverend Jamie Bone will officiate.
