MARY LOUISE POWELL BENNETT, 73, of Valdosta died Thursday, November 9, 2006 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on December 18, 1932 in Marquez, Texas to the late John Tilton Powell and Versie Irene Herren Powell and had lived in Longview, Texas and Jacksonville, Florida before moving to Valdosta in 1991. Mrs. Bennett was a member of Northside Baptist Church where she had served as President of the JOy Makers Group.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, William W. Bennett, Jr. of Valdosta, two daughters and sons in law, Cynthia L. and Charles E. Bennett, Jr. of Liberty, SC., Susan and Ralph Smith of Jacksonville, Fla., one son, Stephen W. Bennett of Dallas Texas, five grandchildren, Michelle Bennett, Melissa Bennett, Amy Smith, David Smith and Trina Smith, two great grandchildren, Anastasia Hodges and Shelby Hodges, four sisters, Virginia Fletcher, Lillie Seelye, Geraldine Tatum and June Blankenship all of Normangee, TX., three brothers, James Powell of Normangee, TX., Jimmy Powell of Lufkin, TX. and Gerald Powell of Normangee, TX., three sisters in law, Hope Adams of Pittsfield, MA., Edith Qurik of Memphis, TN. And Gayle Milligan of Brandon, Fla. She was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Powell and two brothers, John Edward Powell and Louie Powell.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Monday, November 13, 2006 at the Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens.
