Mary Louise Mcrae

Mary Louise McRae, 88, of Valdosta, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman.
She was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, on February 20, 1927, a daughter of the late James Alan Habershaw and Mary Louise Maloney Habershaw. She received her Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree at Rhode Island School of Design and her Master's Degree in Education at Valdosta State College. She also studied the art of portrait painting under portrait artist Robert Brackman. Mrs. McRae taught school in Rhode Island and in Lowndes County, lastly at Pine Grove Elementary School. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and a volunteer for Alzheimer's Caretakers Time Out, ACTO. She was very family oriented, an accomplished portraiture artist, an avid reader, enjoyed Bridge and parlor games. She was very much a Lady and was well loved.
Mrs. McRae was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Griffin McRae, and a sister, Jean A. Habershaw. She is survived by her three daughters and two sons in law, Lea and Andrew J. Fitzsimons of Laurel, Maryland, Tracy and James T. Ryder of Tallahassee, Florida, and Jean McRae of Valdosta; five grandchildren, Mary Katherine Fitzsimons of Laurel, Maryland, Elizabeth Lea Fitzsimons of Laurel, Maryland, Williams Ross Ryder of Tallahassee, Florida, Matthew Thomas Ryder of Tallahassee, Florida, and Beverly Anne Cassidy and husband Nathan B. Cassidy of Jacksonville, Florida; a sister, Joan Bowser of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service for Mrs. McRae will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2015, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Father Peter Ingeman officiating. Interment will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
