Mary Karyl Smith Dawson, a Christian loving wife and mother, 46, of Valdosta died Saturday, June 7, 2008 at South Georgia Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cystic fibrosis. She was born in Sandersville, Georgia on April 17, 1962 and had lived in Valdosta for the past seven years. Mrs. Dawson had been a dental hygienist and was a member of the Northside Baptist Church where she was active in her Sunday School class and sang in the choir.
Survivors include her husband, Leo Dawson, Jr., her daughter, Devon Dawson, her son, Caleb Dawson all of Valdosta, two sisters and a brother in law, Karen and Jeff Cheek of Eastman, Maureen May of Tennille, brother and sister in law, James Morris, Jr. and Diane Smith of Palm Bay, Fla., half brother and sister in law, Curtis and Christine Smith of Nashville, TN., her stepfather, Jim Tanner of Tennille, her parents in law, Leo, Sr. and Judy Dawson of Hanahan, SC., brother in law and sisters in law, Gary and Judy Dawson of Niceville, Fla. and Dianne Dawson of Gaithersburg, MD and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Sally Warren Smith Tanner and her father, James Morris Smith, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 10am, Thursday, June 12, 2008 at the Northside Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Stevens and Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
