Mary J. Combs Shiver

Mary J. Combs Shiver, 94, of Valdosta, died on Monday, June 7, 2021 at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was born on September 27, 1926 in Irwinville, Georgia to the late Thomas and Frances Jones Jernigan. She was a homemaker and a member of Cherry Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Shiver had worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse with Pineview General Hospital, now South Georgia Medical Center, as well as the private practice of Dr. A.F. Saunders. Mrs. Shiver was a fan of Gospel music, loved working in her garden, was the oldest of 12 children, and loved her family beyond measure. They were, indeed, the center of her world.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Bobby) and Kyndra Combs of Goose Creek, South Carolina; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Teresa Shiver Wilson of Valdosta, Melissa and Gene Williams of Lakeland, Georgia, and Lisa and Earl Weaver of Ray City; a son-in-law, Dennis Hart of Valdosta; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda Gail and Denny Ellis of Acworth, Georgia; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Barbara Jernigan of North Carolina, Charles and Vickie Jernigan, and Robert and Mary Jernigan all of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lloyd G. Combs and Leavon Green Shiver; her daughter, Martha Ann Hart; four brothers, Joseph Jernigan, James Jernigan, Raymond Jernigan, and Tommy Jernigan; three sisters, Bonnie Armentrout, Maydell Wilkerson, and Geneva Stewart
Services for Mary J. Combs Shiver will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Williams officiating. The burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
