Mary Goodson Malone

Mary Goodson Malone, 87, of Valdosta, died on Friday, June 22, 2012, at Heritage Healthcare following a brief illness. Mrs. Malone was born in Barnwell, South Carolina on May 10, 1925, a daughter of the late Emmett Eugene and Florence Evelyn Willis Goodson.

After graduating from Barnwell High School in 1942 she enrolled in the Columbia Hospital of Richland County School of Nursing and graduated in 1946 as a Registered Nurse and a member of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps. Mrs. Malone practiced nursing in Chamblee, GA, Shreveport, LA, Columbia, SC, and Belleville, IL from 1946 thru 1951.

Mrs. Malone married Curtis S. Malone (now deceased) on July 8, 1949. They moved to Valdosta in 1953 where she also did private duty nursing, later retiring in the mid-fifties to become a full-time homemaker. Mrs. Malone's family became members of Northside Baptist Church in 1955 where she faithfully served the Lord until her death.

A member of "the Greatest Generation," Mrs. Malone lived a simple life full of compassion and caring, always considering others before herself. She had an endearing, positive attitude, never complained and loved the Lord and her family with all her heart. Found in her own handwriting within the pages of her Bible were these words...
"Trust Jesus...He is interested. God is greater than our troubles. Seek the Lord. Love others."

Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Cathy Malone of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Phil Lovelace of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Matt and Jennifer Malone of Valdosta, Marc Malone of Spanish Fort, Alabama; great grandchildren, Karli Catherine Malone and Kherington Elizabeth Malone both of Valdosta; sisters, Dot Adcox of Atlanta and Marjorie Boggs of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Marie Goodson of Cherry Lake, Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Malone was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis, and sisters, Ursula McRae and Edith Cornwell and a brother, Emmett (Bud) Goodson.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 25, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Reverend Doug Reddick, Reverend Bob Willis and Mr. Bryan Jarvis will officiate. The family will receive friends today, Sunday, June 24, 2012 from 2 until 4 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
