Mary Erma Limeberger Cook

May 1, 1907 — September 2, 2005

MARY ERMA LIMEBERGER COOK, 98, of Clyattville passed away on Friday, September 2, 2005 in Hampton, Virginia. Mrs. Cook was born on May 1, 1907 in Clyattville, she was the second oldest daughter of Eldon and Quessie Limeberger’s seven daughters. As a young girl, Erma and her six sisters worked on their father’s farm near the Briggston area of Clyattville. She graduated from Clyattville High School in 1924 and in 1930 she married her longtime sweetheart, Francis Edwin “Ed” Cook. In addition to being a homemaker and raising three children, she worked in her husband’s grocery business in Clyattville. Even after most of her friends had retired, Erma continued to keep busy by working at the Woolworth’s Lunch Counter in Valdosta and the Owens-Illinois cafeteria in Clyattville and retired at the age of 72. Throughout her life, Mrs. Cook loved being outdoors tending to her roses and annuals. When not busy with crossword puzzles, she enjoyed crocheting and crafts. She lived in independently in Clyattville until suffering a stroke in 1999, when she moved to Virginia to be closer to her daughters. Even though the stroke affected her short-term memory, she always remembered her family and friends in South Georgia and asked about them often.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Cook, her son, Fred Cook and her six sisters. Mrs. Cook is survived by two daughters Maxine Cook of Hampton, VA., Frances “Cookie” Walden of Yorktown, VA., her daughter in law, Claryce Cook of Lake Park, 10-grandchildren, Dale Cook (Mary) of Lake Park, Peggy Carpenter of Oakland, Fla., Cheryl Turner of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Janis Lambert of Dayton, IA., David Folsom of Tallahassee, Fla., Dona Carpenter (Bruce) of Hampton, VA., Mike Folsom (Lynn) of Hampton, VA., Allen Walden of Ft. Washington, MD., Jeffrey Walden (Karmen of Hampton, VA., Jennifer Quackenbush of Santa Barbara, CA., eleven great grandchildren,
and one great great grandson.

Mrs. Cook will be remembered for her gentle and kindhearted spirit: her most caring nature with helping many family members and her amazing sense of humor which was not diminished by time. Mrs. Cook was a lifelong member of the Clyattville United Methodist Church.
