Mary Emily Cooper Howard, 93, of Valdosta, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at her home.
She was born August 15, 1917 in Jacksonville, FL, a daughter of the late Ralph Joseph and Ruby Inez Williams Cooper. She went on to marry Lt. Col. John Waco Howard, Sr., a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, and to raise a family of four children while being stationed at Air Force Bases all over the world. After the death of her husband, she became a House Mom at FSU. She was truly the powerhouse of our clan.
Mrs. Howard is survived by her son, Michael Howard of Lake Park; her daughter and son-in-law, Marlana and David McNutt of Valdosta; eight grandchildren, John Howard III of Macon, Pamela Daupe and husband Cole of New Mexico, Michelle Howard of Macon, Angela Gallop and husband Robert of Stockbridge, Becky Smith and husband Shane of Seven Lakes, NC, Christy Howard of Macon, Jonathan Thurmond of Valdosta, and Cory Howard of Valdosta; two step-grandchildren, Christa and Leanne McNutt of Savannah; ten great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Terry McCarthy of Jacksonville, FL; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Pamela Howard, a son, John Waco Howard, Jr., and her brothers and sisters.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Monday, October 11, 2010, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville, FL. A Rosary Service will begin at 6:30 pm Sunday at the church, with visitation to follow until 8:00 pm. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
