Mary Elizabeth Donaldson Silcox, 84, of Lake Park, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born February 14, 1928 to the late Erastus Donaldson, Sr. and Sallie Riggs Donaldson of Candler County, Metter, GA. Mary Elizabeth attended Union Elementary School and graduated from Metter High School. She received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees from Georgia Southern University. Other schools she attended were Florida State University, the University of Georgia, Berry College and the University of Arkansas. Early in her career she worked in Pierce County and Athens, GA as a home demonstration agent and supervisor. She taught chemistry and biology in Tatnall, Brooks and Lowndes County School Systems. After retiring she taught at Troy State University at Moody Air Force Base. Mary Elizabeth was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, The Pilot Club, Lake Park Homemakers Club and the Retired Teachers Association. She also enjoyed volunteering as a Pink Lady at Smith Northview Hospital. Mary Elizabeth was a member and Elder of Twin Lakes Presbyterian Church. She was an avid Bridge player, gardner, seamstress and traveler.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Silcox of Lake Park, four children, Lorraine Silcox Matis of Valdosta, Michael (Denise) Silcox of Cordele, Angela (John) Tighe of Medina, OH and Jerry (Dora) Phillips of Valdosta, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one brother, Jerome (Jerry) Donaldson of Metter, GA, two sisters in law, Madge Donaldson of Metter and Ruth Donaldson of Matthew, GA, nephew, Benjie Donaldson of Metter, nieces, Jewell (Ned) Donaldson of Twin City, GA, Becky Drawdy of Zebulon, GA, Sallie Donaldson of Matthew and Sandra Parson of Augusta, GA. She was preceded in death by brothers, Erastus Donaldson, Jr. of Metter, Walter (W. E.) Donaldson of Matthew and nephew, Mike Donaldson of Metter.
A memorial service to honor her life will be held Saturday, August 4, 2012 at two p. m. at Twin Lakes Presbyterian Church with Reverend John Akers officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Landgale Hospice or to Twin Lakes Presbyterian Church. A time of fellowship with the family will immediately follow the service.
