Mary E. Stalvey Hambrick

May 15, 1929 — October 20, 2007

Mary E. “Betty” Stalvey Hambrick, 78, of Hahira, passed away peacefully at her home in the presence of her family following a brief illness, on Saturday, October 20, 2007. Mrs. Hambrick was born in Cook County to the late Thomas Eason Stalvey and Annie Bell Futch Stalvey and had been a resident of this area all her life. She and her late husband, Earl Hambrick were founders of Hambrick’s Christmas Tree Farm and charter members of the Georgia Christmas Tree Growers Association. They were the first to farm Christmas trees in Southern Georgia. Mrs. Hambrick was a member of Bemiss United Methodist Church, having served on their finance committee until the onset of her illness in May. In addition, she had been the church historian for many years and was a member of the UMW.

She is survived by son and a daughter-in-law, Johnnie and Helen Hambrick, and her son Terry Hambrick all of Hahira; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Harvey Mays, Jackie and David Bayless and Peggy Folsom all of Valdosta. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Nan Stalvey of Hahira; sister-in-law, Dorothy Stalvey of Hahira, former daughter-in-law, Jan Hambrick and her family of Boulder, Co. and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hambrick was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Earl Hambrick, who died in 1982, and a brother, Gene Stalvey.

Services for Mrs. Betty Hambrick will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 2007 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. James Sapp, Rev. Roger Mays and Rev. Doug Mays officiating. Elder Dwight Marshall will officiate at the graveside. Burial will follow in the Cat Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the United Methodist Women of Bemiss United Methodist Church, 4879 Bemiss Road, Valdosta, GA 31605.
