Mary Dowdy

Mary P. "Polly" Dowdy, 84, of Lake Park, died Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Lakehaven Nursing Home. Born on January 6, 1924 in Crisp County she was the daughter of the late Paul and Nora Stephens Ray. She had resided in Lake Park for the past 50 years. Mrs. Dowdy and her husband, Edward R. Dowdy owned and operated a grocery store in Lake Park for 30 years. She was a Charter member of Francis Lake Baptist Church in Lake Park.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Genell and Dale Cooper, Ray and Mary Alice Dowdy, Laverne and Ray Vickery; grandchildren and their spouses, Susan and Robert Gray, Ken and Jackie Cooper, Sherry and Randy Boyd, Jay and Jeri Dowdy, Heather Dowdy, Dave and Shellie Buckley, Robin and Trey English, Kim Nash, Stacey Adkins. Mrs. Dowdy is also survived by seventeen great grandchildren and a sister, Martha "Mock" Wade of Cordele. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward R. Dowdy, six brothers and three sisters.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Francis Lake Baptist Church with Rev. Eldridge Lyons officiating. Mrs. Dowdy will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 5 p.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park.
